Stan Walker Named Sony Foundation Ambassador
Australian Idol 7.0 Stan Walker has been named Ambassador of the Sony Foundation.
The Sony Foundation raises money invests in the needs of the community and is currently committed to raising funds to build specialised cancer wards for 15-30 year olds.
Walker is close to the cause. His family has a history of the disease. “This cause is so close to my heart,” says Stan in a statement. “Out of my grandmother’s 22 children, 18 have died from cancer. My cousin passed away from cancer last year, he was only 17. It was heartbreaking and the fact he was sharing a ward with old people made it worse. I feel privileged to be able to support the Sony Foundation in this important campaign.”
Stan plans to use his newfound fame for the benefit of the great cause through the Sony Foundation. Dr Louise Messara, Executive Director, Sony Foundation, said “we are delighted to welcome Stan to the Sony Foundation family as an official ambassador. He captivated the public not only with his enormous talent but also with his big heart, honesty and colourful character. In many ways, Stan is the embodiment of what Sony Foundation stands for.”
Stan’s fans can get involved with the ‘Buy-a-Builder’ campaign. At buyabuilder.com.au you can buy a virtual builder to help build a real cancer ward.
Walker won Australia Idol just two weeks ago. His first single ‘Black Box’ debuted at number two on the ARIA chart this week. His album ‘Introducing Stan Walker’ will be released next week.
