Just announced: Stan Walker to perform on Waitangi Day
The star power is being notched up another level for Manukau’s Waitangi Day Family Celebrations with the addition of Australian Idol 2009, Stan Walker, to the line-up.
Walker became the first New Zealander to win the Australian talent show in 2009, winning the audience and voters over with his soulful and captivating vocals. Songs he sang during the competition include Prince’s Purple Rain, Beyoncé’s Single Ladies and the classic hymn Amazing Grace.
His debut single, Black Box, has become a New Zealand radio hit, reaching number one in the radio charts in December and earning platinum status. His album, Introducing… Stan Walker, peaked at number two in the New Zealand charts.
Nigel Borell, Toi o Manukau Kaiwhakahaere, is excited to announce the performance. “Stan Walker is an amazing performer who is proud of his Aotearoa roots. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for Manukau”.
Walker joins an already impressive line-up of live music scheduled for the event, with artists including Kora, Maisey Rika, J Williams and Erakah, also set to hit the stage.
Live music is just one aspect of a great day of fun for the whole community at Manukau’s Waitangi Day celebrations. Toi o Manukau have organised a great day of ceremony, education, market stalls, free entertainment and children's rides to commemorate Waitangi Day.
