Carols to rock on? Empty Carols to rock on?

Post by Simona Mon Mar 07, 2011 12:29 pm

Interesting article involving Stan's performance at the carols...

    Carols to rock on? Carols10

IT’S been going from strength to strength for 20 years, but Carols in Belmore Park will struggle if extra funding cannot be found in the Goulburn community, organiser Peter Mylonas has warned.

At last Tuesday’s general purpose committee meeting Mr Mylonas presented to council a review of the history of Carols, as well as what it’s meant to the community over the years.

“If we didn’t do carols in the park the city would be death warmed up,” Mr Mylonas said.

“People come along every year, and by that stage they haven’t got much money, they’re stressed out of their brains, and they just want to go somewhere and sit down and feel Christmassy.

“But every year it gets harder and harder to raise the corporate dollar,” he said.

Carols has been operating on an annual budget of approximately $18,000, but Mr Mylonas said that if Carols was continue to grow, more financial support would be needed.

He praised the addition of an international act in Stan Walker at last year’s carols, and said that a successful show needed to have something for everybody.

But some councillors queried whether carols was losing its focus with headlines acts such as Stan Walker, and Andrew Banfield said he was worried it was starting to cross the line between carols and a rock concert.

For the full story, please see the print edition of Monday’s Goulburn Post, available at our Auburn Street office and from leading newsagencies across the region.

hmmmm may be times are changing but sticking to classic carols concert can be repetitive, sometime boring yawn

Crossing over to a rock concert though, it's too much. Carols to rock on? 943370

I think revisited/remixed classic carols songs/tunes could be the answer. angel

Stan and his band do remix-es very well, he in particular has a distinctive approach and interpretation of classics (that we all love).... it might just work... something to consider in the future.

    what do you think?

I watched all Stan's performances on Carol. I think they are very nice.
I love it very much when he sang heal the world, holy night, amazing grace.
They are nice Christmas songs and Stan made them sound so relevant....Christmas Carol definitely must continue....
