Stan will be performing at St Marys festival, Penrith NSW

QUEEN St in St Marys will be decked out with banners, flags and stalls on Saturday, October 30, when the rescheduled St Marys Spring Festival takes place.

The festival had to be rescheduled after the original date was ruined by wet weather.

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to organisers, which includes entertainment and a wide range of food.

Australian Idol winner Stan Walker will be performing.

The festival aims to showcase the vibrant community, businesses and culture of St Marys.

The free day is hosted by the St Marys Development Committee with the assistance of Penrith Council. It is sponsored by Delfin Lend Lease.

Penrith Mayor Ken Crameri said the highlight of the event is the grand parade, which starts at 12.30pm.

“There’s loads of fascinating stalls to check out and great entertainment,” he said.

“We had to postpone the initial date of September 4 due to inclement weather so fingers’ crossed there will be better weather for the new date.”

For more information or to book a stall, visit www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au or phone 1300 736 836.

TEENAGE girls are squealing with joy that 2009 Australian Idol runner-up Stan Walker will headline the rescheduled St Marys Spring Festival.
Queen Street will be packed to capacity with more than 30,000 expected to attend the biggest event on the St Marys calendar on October 30.

Organisers hope weather will be kinder this time after it was called off the morning of last month's initial date.

"Preparations are in full swing and moving along busily," organiser Vanessa Campbell said. "We're reconfirming entertainment and making sure everyone in the grand parade can still attend. We haven't had anyone pull out of the parade yet."

She was confident all 220 stall places will be fully booked, given 83 were turned away from last year's event.

B1 and B2 from Bananas in Pyjamas are among some of the original attractions which have cancelled due to prior bookings.

But festival regular, Elvis impersonator David Cazalet, will be there, along with the surprise inclusion of Walker, thanks to St Marys Sound Centre owner Steve Perry's record company connections.

"We were very lucky to secure Stan," Ms Campbell said.

"It's a great opportunity for the people for St Marys. He'll attract people from outside the area who will hopefully realise what a great place St Marys is and return in the future. We also have a few other tricks up our sleeve."

In its 36th year, locals regard the event as their version of the Royal Easter Show.

This year's event is organised by Penrith Council in conjunction with St Marys Development Committee and Delfin Lend Lease as the event's inaugural sponsor.
